Thank you for downloading Weather Defender. This tutorial will provide you step-by-step instructions for getting up and running with Weather Defender so you can start

If you need help installing the software, please see the Installation topic.

Step 1
Double-click the blue-and-white shield on your Desktop to launch Weather Defender. The first time you run the program, you will be see the following screen:

Click the Sign Up button to begin your free trial registration.

NOTE: If you are upgrading from SWIFT WX Professional, you should Sign Up as a new user. You will have the opportunity to enter your upgrade key during registration.



Step 2
In the window that appears, enter the requested information on each screen to create your Weather Defender account.

Step 3
When you have reached the last screen and finished creating your account, close the window.

Step 4
Enter your newly created Username and Password in the box that appears:

Click the Remember Me checkbox if you want the application to remember your username and password.



Step 5
Wait a few moments for the main program to load. After loading, you should see a map of the United States.

The house icon (if present) is your home address as entered during the sign up process.



Step 6
Congratulations! If you have made it this far, you have completed the basic setup and are ready to begin forecasting and tracking severe weather.

Familiarize yourself with the main interface of Weather Defender:

  • Along the upper portion of the window you will find all the tools and functions available for interacting with your map.

  • The semi-transparent window on the left lets you interact with each of the map's layers.

  • The semi-transparent window in the upper-right is your Map Legend.

Step 7
Hold the mouse cursor over the map. Press and hold the left mouse button and move the mouse in any direction to scroll the map correspondly.

Release the left mouse button to let the map repaint.



Step 8
Scroll the mouse wheel forward to zoom in on the map. Scroll backward to zoom out.

Step 9
Click the U.S. Radar button in the Map Layers Dialog to turn off Radar imagery on your map.

Then click it again to display Radar again. Use the Map Layers Dialog to interact with the individual layer



Step 10
Click the Add Layer button from the on the toolbar to view the layer menu:

Select the Surface Fronts option.

Step 11
You will see a new button appear in your Map Layers window, entitled Surface Fronts. Wait a moment for the Surface Fronts layer to download.

Step 12
Repeat Step 10 (Add Layer), and select the Temperture option from the menu.
