Tornado Outbreak in Upper Midwest

Numerous tornadoes, including multiple-vortex tornadoes were reported Thursday afternoon and evening across South Dakota and Minnesota as a powerful weather system moved through the Upper Midwest:

Storms are expected to continue overnight before moving into the Mississippi Valley on Friday.

 

 

Severe Weather in Ohio, Illinois, Michigan

CNN -- "Seven people were killed in Ohio as severe thunderstorms and tornadoes raked the Midwest on Saturday and early Sunday, authorities said... The town of Streator looks "like a war zone," Mayor Jimmie Lansford said. A total of 50 people were triaged, and 17 were transferred to hospitals and later released, he said.

"The National Weather Service confirmed Sunday the tornado was an F2, with winds between 113 and 157 mph. Officials report about 30 homes damaged, including three destroyed on the south side of Streator."

Severe Weather Strikes Midwest, Southern Plains

A powerful weather system is moving through the Central and Southern Plains this week spawning severe weather throughout the Midwest and Southern states:

Thursday, Apr 23

 

States Affected:

Nebraska
Iowa
Kansas
Missouri
Illinois
Oklahoma
Arkansas
Tennessee
Texas
Louisiana
Mississippi

A Slight Risk means the threat exists for scattered severe weather, including:

  • Isolated Tornadoes
  • Large Hail (up to 3/4-inch)
  • Damaging Winds (58mph or greater)

A Moderate Risk means that widespread severe weather is expected, including:

  • Numerous Tornadoes
  • Very Large Hail (greater than 3/4-inch)
  • Severe Wind Damage

If you reside in the areas affected by these outlooks, be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.
